Cutie Patootie of the Week

Our Cutie Patootie of the week is Penn Badgley!

Penn first captured some of our hearts as "lonely boy" in the first season of Gossip Girl.

I have to admit that I (Mariela) loved that he was a loner and wanted nothing to do with the Upper East Side. He just wanted to mind his own business and school, and unfortunately (for some of us) he had an eternal crush on Serena, but that's another story.

I have to admit that after season one my crush on Penn died down a bit after he started dating Serena, I just missed lonely boy, and I did not really like the character he became, but alas two things happened: DAIR and Easy A.

Penn managed to capture my heart again as the loveable character he played in Easy A, Todd, an adorable school mascot.

And finally let's talk about Dair, which is probably the best thing that happened to Gossip Girl. If it weren't for the possibility of me watching Dan and Blair together then I would have probably not be watching the show anymore. I just love these two together, I love how supportive Dan is of Blair and is willing to put her happiness before his.

All that Chair fans have to argue is that Blair and Chuck are "meant to be" , but really, do you really want Blair in an abusive relationship that will make her life a rollercoaster??

Dan offers comfort to her and she always feels safe with him. They enjoy the same films and have the same interests. I can just see a lifetime of happiness with these two.

And this last Monday, something Dair fans have been waiting for a LONG time happened!!!! Nichole and I probably texted each other "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" about a million times. It was epic.

 Dan Humphrey, you are amazing!

So Called Eye Candy and the Purposes they Serve (NONE)

Is that lipstick?! This is an important question!

Yes, I'm gonna share with you the news that I still watch teen soaps (only Gossip Girl).  I love them for how catty they can be.  I love the absurd plots and stylish wardrobes.  I always love the eye candy.  One of the statements is a lie.

I always crush on the guy I'm not supposed to crush on!  I know Gossip Girl wants me to crush on Nate Archibald, what with his perfectly highlighted hair and all!  But I'm not buying it.  And I haven't been buying it since the show began.  I once shared the idea for The Nate Archibald Must Die fan page (is there now one in existence?) and a complete stranger volunteered to make posters!  It made me happy that I was not the only one that felt so.

"Why would we want Nate dead? He's cute! He's hot!"  Such are the statements I always hear.  And my rebuttal? He's not that cute!  I'm not calling Chace Crawford ugly (I understand it, but I'm not on board the crushing train).  What I'm saying is this: you cannot convince me to care for a character or to want to keep watching their storylines if the character just isn't interesting.  As far as I'm concerned, Nate Archibald only remains relevant to the show so long as he is relevant to the other characters on the show.  As of lately, his main storylines are with people that are still new to the show, and probably won't last (judging from experience).  I'm convinced the writers are relying on the fact that people are attracted to him, to keep his character going. 

As a fan, I beg the writer's to write off this character.  It's been done in the past, e.g Aaron, Vanessa, Jenny. 

Gossip Girl isn't the only show guilty of this, but it's the one that has been bugging me.  Some people, and I know it might not look like it because I'm watching a teen soap, still want characters that they are going to care for in some way, and if your only selling point on a character is that they're good looking, that just doesn't cut it.

Three Words, Eight Letters

First word and first letter: I.

Whenever characters on Gossip Girl have a rising chemistry there comes a time when it is hard to communicate any further. There are things they want to say, that cannot be said. They ache inside because they have been drowned in a sea of butterflies galore (wait what?). Okay this scenario only happens when one of the people with budding chemistry is Blair Waldorf.

Second word and letters 2- 5: love.

Who cannot help but love Blair Waldorf?! I adore her! It all started with the first episode and a catty girl wearing a darling black dress with sheer sleeves and an oversized bow on her head! Catty? Yes. That's the word for the character I knew I would root for. You have to understand that I have OD'd from my television on numerous occasions and that I already knew that if someone displayed the characteristics the lovely BW displayed that she was being misunderstood. I think you're having a hard time following.

Brief history of the misunderstood Blair Waldorf up until the pilot: Blair's father left her mother to pursue the way that he was born (gay). Blair's mother has never played a major role in her life, in fact the maid Deroda is more motherly with her. Also, Blair's boyfriend since grade school(I'm taking your word Chuck Bass) has always had a thing for Serena. Cue Serena (Tall, outrageous, party crazed BFF). Blair has always found the need to compete with Serena, she even suffers from bulimia.

That's as much of a history as I'm going to lay out.

Third word, letters 6-8: you.

I love you! Those are the very three words, eight letters it took Chuck Bass 2 seasons to find the courage to say! Those are the same three words, eight letters that were allowing Dan Humphrey to run off with BW! Do I really have to wait another full season to hear someone else say that to her?! Please, give me my Dair! I beg of you.

This is how easy it is to say, "I love you!" I love you Blair Waldorf, I do! You're headbands, you're outfits, your education, you're starring role in the Age of Innocence opposite Dan Humphrey, your intolerance of girls that wear leggings as pants, your love of Audrey and macaroons, your taste in literature and knowledge of the world, and movies at the forum! Dan Humphrey/Gossip Girl writers, I beg of you to allow three words, eight letters to be said this season!
